Pedal Toolbox

Pedal is Turo's design system. Pedal Toolbox is a Figma plugin with a bunch of convenient utilities packaged up into a modular "toolbox" including string formatters for localization, component migrators, and a linter. Our design systems team can only do so much to help designers with keeping their libraries up to date and migration, so we built this plugin to give our designers a more convenient way to keep up with changes to the system and ensure their specs are ready for development.

The plugin originally started as Pedal Localize, which we had built alongside some formatting helpers for the Pedal platform libraries. We wanted to give designers access to these same APIs in Figma so when they mock up and prototype localized content, they know they're matching what they'll see in production.

Then as we matured, eventually we found the need to deprecate an older component in Figma because the new version introduced a breaking change. To help make the deprecation process less cumbersome, we built a migrator to scan the document for all instances of the component, then swap them all in one go.

The modular architecture of the plugin makes it easy to build a new utility and just add it to the plugin's navigation.
